Dav Whatmore has appointed the head coach of Nepal

Dav Whatmore, who led Sri Lanka to victory in the 1996 50-over World Cup, was named the Nepalese national team’s head coach.

On Thursday, former Australia cricketer Dav Whatmore was appointed as Nepal’s head coach. Former batsman, who played seven Australian Tests in 1979, had previously served in a coaching capacity in almost every South Asian nation. Nepal is his fourth country in the region.

While serving as the national coach of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, apart from Zimbabwe, he also served as the coach of the Kerala Ranji Trophy team, and from 2007 to 2009 he was the director of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In the Indian Premier League, he has coached Kolkata Knight Riders as well.

“Dav is extremely keen to take on this new challenge, as he strongly believes Nepal has great talent and a very bright future in international cricket. Nepal is a beautiful country and Dav is looking forward to this new challenge with young talent in Nepal,” said a statement from the Nepal Cricket Association.
